1. Eligibility:
The Story Competition (hereinafter referred to as “Competition”) is open to individuals aged 8 and above.
2. Submission Guidelines:
Participants are required to submit an original short story of no more than 1000 words. Submissions must be in English and adhere to the theme of promoting positive Muslim narratives. Plagiarized, offensive, or inappropriate content will be disqualified. All submitted works must be original and previously unpublished in any form, ensuring the integrity and uniqueness of the content for the purpose of the competition.
3. Intellectual Property Rights:
Participants retain all intellectual property rights to their story, including the right to publish, distribute, adapt or modify it in any way you wish. However, by entering this competition, the participant grants Bayyinah Institute and Ummah Ikhlas a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use their story for the purposes of this competition and its promotion. This includes the right to publish the participant’s story on our website, social media, newsletters, magazines or other platforms, as well as the right to include their story in any anthologies, collections or compilations that we may produce in relation to this competition.
4. Prizes:
Selected stories will be included in a free e-book compilation of short Muslim stories. Winners will receive a copy of the e-book and recognition for their contribution. Additionally, one winner will be selected to attend the World Quran Convention on December 1st, 2023, to showcase their work. Transport and accommodation expenses for the winner will be covered.
5. Selection of Winners:
Winning stories will be selected by a panel of judges appointed by Bayyinah and Ummah Ikhlas. The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the selection process.
6. Rights of Bayyinah:
Bayyinah retains the right to edit, modify, and adapt the submitted stories as they see fit for the purposes of this competition and its promotion, as long as we do not alter the meaning or essence of the participant’s story. They also have the right to convert any story into various creative mediums, including but not limited to audiovisual formats, animations, and visual artworks, without seeking further permission from the author.
7. Privacy and Data Protection:
By participating in the Competition, participants consent to the collection, use, and storage of their personal information by Bayyinah and Ummah Ikhlas for the purpose of administering the Competition and related activities. Participants’ data will be protected and treated confidentially in accordance with applicable data protection laws.
8. Disqualification:
Bayyinah and Ummah Ikhlas reserve the right to disqualify any participant who violates the terms and conditions or engages in fraudulent activities in connection with the Competition. Bayyinah and Ummah Ukhlas are not obliged to use a participant’s story in any way and that we may reject or disqualify your story at any time for any reason.
9. Liability:
Bayyinah and Ummah Ikhlas shall not be responsible for any loss, damage, injury, or disappointment suffered by participants resulting from their participation in the Competition or the use of the e-book.
10. Changes to Terms:
Bayyinah and Ummah Ikhlas reserve the right to make changes to these terms and conditions, including canceling or modifying the Competition, at their sole discretion.
11. Governing Law:
These terms and conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction of Bayyinah’s primary location.
By submitting a story to the competition, you confirm that you are the original author of the story and that you have not copied or plagiarized any part of it from any other source.
By submitting a story to the Competition, participants indicate their acceptance of these terms and conditions.
